Film Volt Group (UK) and iCogitate Productions Inc. (Canada) are proud to announce the development of their first official UK–Canada co-production, Daring Greatly. This ambitious feature film is inspired by true events that shook Toronto between 2010 and 2017 a chilling period where eight men connected to the LGBTQ+ community went missing, later revealed to be victims of Canada’s most notorious serial killer of the 21st century.
But Daring Greatly is more than just a crime story. It’s a human story of loss, resilience, and justice. At its heart, the film aims to honour the memories of the victims, explore the strength of community, and shine a light on the importance of representation within cinema.
A Studio-Level Vision
The film is being directed by acclaimed filmmaker Andy Morahan (Highlander III, iconic music videos for Guns N’ Roses, George Michael, and more). With his deep experience blending cinematic spectacle and emotional storytelling, Morahan brings a bold visual style to a project that demands both sensitivity and power.
The screenplay, written by Julianne White, is rooted in years of research and a careful balance of truth, drama, and psychological depth. White’s approach ensures the victims’ stories are central, while also crafting a thriller that grips audiences worldwide.
A Co-Production with Global Reach
As a UK–Canada official co-production, Daring Greatly benefits from a unique partnership between Film Volt Group and iCogitate Productions Inc.. This collaboration allows the film to access international distribution opportunities, while also strengthening creative ties across two film industries.
Toronto will play a central role in the production, not only as the setting of the story but also as a character in its own right reflecting the vibrancy, diversity, and complexity of a city forever changed by these events.
Honouring the Eight
Above all, Daring Greatly is a project built on respect. The film will pay tribute to the eight men whose lives were cut short while addressing the larger social and cultural impact their stories left behind. It is being developed with careful consultation and an awareness of its responsibility to the communities it represents.
“This isn’t just about a crime — it’s about people, community, and the way we remember them. We want to make a film that grips audiences, but also leaves them thinking about the value of every life.”— Mark Busby, Producer, Film Volt Group
